EDbU:n uutiskirjeelle haetaan toimittajaa

Dear Deafblind friends, colleagues, professionals,

 

Greetings to you all on behalf of the European Deafblind Union. My name is Sanja Tarczay and I am the vice-president of the EDbU Executive Board. I come from Croatia, where I am also the Head of the Croatian Association of Deafblind Persons Dodir.

 

As you probably know, the European Deafblind Union (EDbU) is a young association that joins together European deafblind people's national organisations. It was founded in 2003 in Fredericia, Denmark. It is an international non-governmental and non-profit-making organisation. The basic aim and function of EDbU is to work for equality and full participation in society by deafblind people in all European countries. On the other hand, EDbU is also a European forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of deafblindness, which also works to increase European solidarity among deafblind people’s organisations. To accomplish both of those tasks successfully, EDbU must be able to inform the European Deafblind about everything that goes on in Europe that might concern them, their lives and their needs.

 

This is the reason why EDbU has started up publishing a newsletter, Bridges. Unfortunately, only one issue of the newsletter was published so far, the December 2006 one. That single issue can bee viewed at

In the meantime the newsletter editor quit the job, so at the moment EDbU is looking for a new editor for the EDbU newsletter Bridges.

 

As a (relatively) young organisation, EDbU at the moment has not enough funds to actually print a newsletter and send it to its members in a magazine form. The newsletter is published on the web and sent to members by e-mail. At the same time the lack of funds means that the newsletter editor is going to be a volunteering position for some time.

  • What kind of person are we looking for?
    Someone with enough free time to be able to collect information, write articles and even ask others to do so.
  • Someone with an inclination to creative writing.
  • Someone with a good knowledge of English (as English is the official language of the newsletter).
  • Someone who can do the entire job independently, that is: gathering of the needed information, editing it and arranging it.
  • Someone who is well informed about everything that’s going on in Europe concerning the Deafblind.
  • Someone who can animate others to write articles for the Newsletter.
  • Someone who can edit the texts so that they can fit into the newsletter’s (electronic) format.
  • Someone who will keep in touch with the EDbU Executive Committee to spread the news on the EDbU.

 

Everyone who finds him-/herself apt for the job should send an application for the post accompanied by a CV to this e-mail address: .

 

The CV should include a short review of one’s past experiences in writing and/or editing. As the Executive Board meeting during which a new newsletter editor shall be chosen is due in March 2009, only the applications sent until 28 February 2009 shall be taken into consideration. After the meeting we shall inform all the applicants of our choice.

 

Please, spread this letter within the Deafblind community. Inform every deafblind person you yourself think would fit in the above description. We need as many people able and wanting to write as possible. If you do not obtain the editor post, you can still contribute to the newsletter by writing on local news concerning the Deafblind.
